Julia Lidou is a German-born Greek painter whose work explores the translation of lived reality into emotional, often intangible states.

Her practice is rooted in capturing inner worlds-sensations, vulnerabilities, and shifting experiences and giving them a physical presence on canvas.

Lidou began her creative journey as a Special Effects Make-up Artist and Wig Maker, developing her skills in hyperrealistic prosthetic make-up and the re-creation of life-like skin with all its imperfections.

After moving to Berlin in 2019, she returned to oil painting, a passion she has been honing since her early youth, applying her interest in imitating skin and flesh to the canvas.

Her paintings reflect on feelings of emotional overwhelm, particularly in navigating the female experience within a patriarchal social structure, and reclaim a sense of confidence and agency over the narrative of the female form. Additionally, her work further addresses broader themes such as overcoming self-censorship and the ongoing search for one’s place in the world.

Lidou’s distinctive visual language blends emotional depth with conceptual clarity, offering viewers an invitation to question perceptions of identity, vulnerability, and self-acceptance. Her evolving practice continues to navigate the tension between inner experience and societal expectation.
